Bridging the Digital Divide in Greenwich
Greenwich Public Schools is piloting a program to provide internet access to students who do not have these in their homes.
In the highly competitive, overscheduled world, high school students who can only rely on public access internet options (e.g. GHS labs, public libraries) are at a significant disadvantage compared with peers who can obtain information and work at any hour in their home.
Students will receive a Verizon hotspot which will connect directly with the GPS Chromebook. The Verizon device will only be accessible to the Chromebook and not other electronic devices. Unlimited internet will be available through the end of the school year at which time the program will be reevaluated.
We are very excited to be taking these steps to help level the playing field for these students.
